Hi Everyone,

Whew! I have had quite a ride since my last newsletter in April. The summer was amazing, I spent it in Montreal getting my daughter Dima settled into university there. What a beautiful city, full of creativty and artsy energy and definitely a melting pot of cultures; much like Dubai.

We have moments in life that we will always remember; and a lot of these are associated with "rites of passage". Waving goodbye to my daughter as I walked through the boarding gates at Montreal airport, was one of those moments. I had to dig down so deep to find the stregth to let her go. One part of me wanted to run back and hold her and never ever release her, and another part of me wanted to drag her onto the plane back to Dubai with me. I had to honour her life's journey and realize that our children come into this world not to be an extension of ourselves, but to evolve and become their own beautiful, independent people with their own unique path. It was time for me to let her go and play big in the world; make her own mistakes and learn through them. So i wiped my tears, breathed in deep and called upon all the angels to help me make it through immigration and onto the plane.

I've been back six weeks and I'm still waiting for "empty nest syndrome" to hit. However, something strange has happened. I don't seem to have it! Isn't that a blessing? I'm sure its got something to do with being so busy with the new season just starting and everything to do with the fantastic tools that we now have with social media: Skype, Whatsapp, Facebook etc.. I can see my daugther on a screen, thousands of miles of away, and live through a virtual world in her world through technology - isnt that amazing?. I can see what she's wearing, know if she's happy, and make sure she's dong the dishes! I have become a virtual mother, and in some weird way it feels great.

Letting go is a process that can be painful or painless. It depends on how we choose to see it. As an inspirational coach, I tell my clients, that the control we have in life is not over others, but over oursevles and our attitudes. At any given time we can choose to see the glass as half empty or half full, it is totally dependent on the lens we choose to view life through. I choose half full; after all, there are some positive parts to having an empty nest. For example: I have far more room to ruffle my feathers and spread my wings. I dont have to worry so much about keeping the nest warm, or finding juicy worms to feed the offspring. And my mate, the eagle, has me all to himself, so we can rekindle our romance - we have an empty house now and that leaves all sorts of possibilities!

In fact, I'm going to let you all into a secret.  Now that we have space in our nest, Guy and I are co-creating to bring a new kid into the world.  Not a human child;  but a new space, a new hangout, a new creation.  We are converting a warehouse in Al Quoz and it should be ready, god willing, by mid November.  So if you have need for a funky space to host an empowering, personal development workshop, a practice space for your band, a cool hangout for your community club, a hip place for a drama, dance, yoga, painting or poetry class etc. A funky, original venue for a casting or a film shoot, please contact guy@dubaidrums.com

I am soooooooooooooo excited. Finally I will have a space to store all my drums and my musical equipment. My garage will be able to house cars instead of drums, I'll have a proper office; and I'll be able to host regular community drum circle and recreational music events. Amongst other exciting things, we'll offer advanced djembe drum and tabla drum classes and African dance - so watch this space! I'll also have a place where I can welcome passers by for a nice cup of tea and generally get back into the social scene again. I have been so busy building a business for the past 10 years and juggling between that and motherhood and being a wife, that I have totally neglected hanging out with all the lovely people that I have come to know in Dubai for the past 18 years.
