Dubai Drums' Summer Camp for Kidz |
Hi everyone,
Summer is very much a time of renewal and transformation and one of the nicest examples of this is the butterfly.
The economic crisis has thrust many of us into new roles and new rules regarding how we are living now and how we will live in the future, and I think its good for us all to get a feel for where we are right now in the butterfly cycle. Are you in the cocoon phase, ready to burst forth and fly freely? or, Are you feeling the need to stay in the safety of the cocoon and rest awhile and wait for your time to emerge?
Many of us are already winging our way freely towards a new future and different places and others are going through the painful process of transformation and change. For those stressing at how much life has changed, please remember the past is the past. And change, though difficult, is necessary.
These are unusual times, and it feels very much like we are all moving forward together on planet earth in some form of transition towards who knows what. It’s important to remain optimistic when you find yourself facing difficult challenges, as there’s a time for everything in nature, and your time to prosper will surely come.
July is a time of metamorphosis for us and the summer butterfly. While we go through our own different, individual transformations, it is vitally important to keep an open mind in order to catch the creative ideas and opportunities fluttering towards us now so we can get ready to burst forth and fly.
Personally, I’m in the countryside of France with my family, resting and renewing and enjoying watching the butterflies flit here and there on their search for everything sweet and new. I’m reflecting on where I can grow and learn in my life and what “edges” I need to fly over in my eternal search for onwards and upwards.
Have fun this summer and look forward to seeing you all as bright as butterflies drumming away together real soon.

Dubai Drums' summer day camp includes a variety of hand drumming, singing, drama, art, storytelling, team games, puppet shows & rhythmic activities with hand held percussion. We conduct tribal council meetings to enhance childrens' core values, and daily community drum circles to encourage creative self expression and collaboration and also to enhance musical ability.
Let the kids become a community tribe and see how rhythmically empowered they become after just one week! Parents can join in with the daily community drum circles from 12.30pm - 1.00pm at no extra charge. Teenage helpers (17-19 years old) attend all activities with the children to add to the fun and entertainment.
Week 1 - August 1-5 Week 2 - August 8-12
Timings: 9.00a.m. - 1.00p.m.
Price: Dhs600 per week

Drop into Marina Mall any day except Sunday and Monday, and catch up with the rhythm at our Dubai Drums community drum circle: 6.00pm - 9.00pm.
We're there to set the beat, and its totally sponsored by Marina Mall.
It's indoors and a great place to take the small kidz to keep them occupied,
and a super way for adults to de-stress and drum along!.

African Djembe Drop In & Drum Classes |
 Our "drop in & drum" Monday night sessions will start again on August 23rd. It's a super way to learn the African Djembe Drum and also a great way to de-stress and have rhythmic fun in a group setting.

How Hand Drumming Reduces Stress and Connects People
|
Based on a study by the Medical Science Monitor, it was proven that people who play music in their free time have genetic reversals to stress.
Many health organizations have followed this logic by integrating drumming into their curriculum and have reported that it is a healthy way to relax in multiple ways. The more intense a person is while playing, the more aerobic the activity becomes whereby the player reduces stress and burns calories at the same time.
Playing a drumbeat engages the right side of your brain, shifting the pressure from the critical thinking left-brain. So, after an intense day at the office or a stressful week in life, the drum can physiologically relax your mind and refuel for the next day.
In a double blind placebo study by Dr. Barry Bittman, a well known neurologist, it was proven that recreational music, such as community drum circles, boosts the immune system, raises endorphins in the bloodstream (happy hormones) and has a de-stressing effect because of the left brain, right brain balancing, creating a "whole-brain" experience.
One of the things that makes hand drumming so inviting is that it is quite easy for inexperienced players to join a drum circle without the frustration of learning technical skills. When you join a drum circle, your only task is to contribute what you feel comfortable doing and the circle finds a way to embrace it in the melody. This in itself provides stress relief and positive energy for your psyche.
A drum circle creates a sense of acceptance and community, and when people collaborate together in rhythm they can achieve far more together than they can ever achieve alone!
